You hear how he edited a section of his work, over, and over again-the subtle changes towards perfection, Hemingway style. A bonus is found at the end of the book: Hemingway’s revisions of a section. ![]() You hear Hemingway’s thoughts about himself, about the writing process, and about others including some of literature’s best: Fitzgerald, James, Ford, Gertrude Stein (It is no wonder why she didn’t talk with him after this book-showing that honesty in print isn’t always the best policy.). This story is a love story and a tale of regret-a tale of lessons learned from the altered and divorcee. For a sample of Lloyd’s voice, check out Michael Crichton’s Micro: A Novel. Lloyd does a wonderful job narrating this up-lifting Hemingway book. Perfect complement-Paris Wife & Midnight in Parisĭon’t let the Sample discourage you from listening to this wonderful book! ![]() ![]() I picked it up before picture book time once, thinking to myself "Anything by Eric Carle must be at least decent, right?" Big mistake. Repetitive and bizarre, this story might just be the only Eric Carle book I’m not wild about. ![]() ![]() Perfect for a read aloud at home or the library, this book would also work well in a preschool or grade one classroom, perhaps as part of a unit on science, ecology, or even the family (stressing the fact that in the ocean, it is often "Mister Seahorse" and other males which take care of and protect the offspring). Recommended for young children interested in science, sea creatures, ecology, Mister Seahorse is simple and fun enough to be understood and appreciated by most toddlers, but involved, detailed and busy enough to be enjoyed by slightly older children as well (up to and including ages five or six, perhaps even seven or eight). With a simple, informative text, combined with Eric Carle's magical, colourful illustrations (I love all of them, but I think my favourite is the depiction of the lion fish hiding among the coral reefs), this absolute gem of a picture book demonstrates in a fun, but educational manner that especially in the ocean, it is often the male of the species that hatches and watches over the eggs, the new generation. ![]() ![]() ![]() But he failed to realize that fate will always chase him to wherever he goes, and he has not reached the realization that he should deal with the problems he is facing at present and solve the problems with his father and his isolation at school. Kafka feels the sense of escaping the community, from the situation he is trapped in, and he feels the need for escaping in order to be “the world strongest fifteen-year-old”. ![]() However, Kafka was not mature at that time and he was dealing with a lot of emotions, therefore, he can’t fully understand what Crow said to him. The message which Crow is trying to convey to Kafka is that fate is inevitable, and no matter what Kafka does and how hard he tries to escape from it, he can not run away from it. ![]() In the text, fate is described as “a small sandstorm that keeps changing directions”, and Crow said to Kafka that “you change direction but the sandstorms chase you”. It was not wise to run away, and Crow used a sandstorm to symbolize that fate is inevitable. Crow was playing the role of guiding Kafka to think logically and not to be overwhelmed by his emotion during his journey. ![]() He should face the problem and face his fear, not avoid them.
